What Does the Home and School Club Fund?
Art Vistas - provides instruction and enrichment in art appreciation, art history, and art techniques to students. All Oak Ridge students receive art lessons each year and have the opportunity to express themselves with their very own hands on art work. It is a program that is completely run by parent volunteers and 100% funded by Oak Ridge Home and School Club. You don’t have to be artistic. All the supplies, materials and training is provided. This program is great for busy parents who can’t spend a lot of time in their child’s classroom. There is an art showcase for students' work at Oak Ridge's Open House.
Music for Minors - is a nonprofit with 40 years of experience in elementary school music education. Their mission is to nurture in children a lifelong love of music. Operating in the San Francisco Bay Area, they provide students in transitional kindergarten through fifth grade with a program of diverse, high-quality musical experiences that is:
Engaging and participatory
Based on state music education standards
A foundation for further choral and instrumental music education
The Music for Minors curriculum is sequential and varied, including visual aids, props, and instruments. Lessons include singing, listening, reading, theory, movement, dancing, and playing rhythm instruments and recorders. Oak Ridge Home and School Club funds a weekly Music for Minors class for grades Tk-4th.
Assemblies - about once a month students experience a performance, live animals, a puppet show, a science experiment, a different culture, and more right at their school.
Field Trips - one of the best tools that teachers can use to provide every student with real-world experiences. Whether that's a trip to the local grocery store, a library, a pumpkin patch, a museum, a farm, or a theater, each experience that a student participates in contributes to their understanding of the world. When students leave the classroom, they see the connections between what is happening at school and in the ‘real-world’. They begin to see that what they learn within the walls of the classroom can help them solve the problems they see in the world around them and can have a direct impact on who they become as people.
Classroom Supplies - Our Home and School Club provides funds for teachers to purchase supplies for projects that go beyond the standard.
Safety on Bufkin Drive - We provide safety to our staff and students on Bufkin Drive and our parking lot. Buses are able to enter and exit our parking lot quickly and safely and pedestrians can cross the lot without risk of injury.
5th Grade Team Building Activity - All 5th grade students get to go on a special field trip to bond with each other before their final year at Oak Ridge.
6th Grade Science Camp - All 6th graders go to Walden West to explore and learn about the natural sciences during a week-long experience.
